Nails: Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue

This was one of my first Sally Hansen Complete Manicure colors.  I picked it up a couple years ago and it’s still one of my favorites!

Navy blue makes a great nail color because it looks chic and professional but yet….it’s blue!  🙂

Complete Manicure

This polish goes on like a dream:  smooth and even, opaque in two coats and dries quickly without the need to use base coat or top coat.  After all, it’s a complete manicure in a bottle, right?  🙂

What is your favorite navy blue polish?

New Video! International Swap with Anouchka!

Today started out as a bummer kind of day.  Not for any specific reason, I was just in a bit of a funk.  Ever have one of those days?

But all of that quickly changed when I checked my mailbox and found a package that came all way from Belgium!!  My sweet friend Anouchka (from lifeofbun) and I have been in contact over the past couple months about doing a swap of products.  We were both excited to try affordable products from brands that are not easy to find in our native countries.  I had lots of fun shopping for her products!  You can see her swap post here.

I felt like a kid at Christmas!  My package contained a selection of Catrice eyeshadows, lipsticks and a nail polish.  She included a nail polish and eyeliner from essence as well!  Her selection of colors was perfect, exactly the kind of colors I would have chosen!

I was so excited that I made a video!  🙂  Click the pic to check it out to see all the wonderful goodies!

Nothing like a sweet friend to brighten up a gloomy day!!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you, Anouchka!!  I love everything you picked out!!  Mwah! 🙂

Beauty Bargain Alert: Glass Nail files at Big Lots

This week we made a stop at Big Lots.  I enjoy the adventure of shopping there because you just never know what you might find!

I have wanted to get my hands on a glass nail file after I heard that they are better for your nails.  How are they better?  They create a nice smooth edge to the nail without the pulling or snagging that weakens the nail.  My nails are pretty hard, but once they get a bit passed my finger, they tend to rip and snag very easily and it drives me nuts!

This package was labeled “Trendy Tools” and came with two glass nail files in different colors.  Both have a protective plastic cover.

I found these in the makeup/cosmetics section.  And the best part??

The price!

Only $2.80 for TWO!!  Cant’ beat that!!

I’ve already used these on my nails and I have to say that I can definitely tell a difference.  My nails feel much smoother along the edge.  I don’t think I will ever be a long nail kinda gal, but I’m really hoping that this will help keep my nails from ripping and snagging as they grow.

Each Big Lots location seems to have slightly different things in stock, so I’m not sure if you will find these in your area.  But if you’re like me and enjoy the thrill of the hunt, it’s worth a stop to look.  🙂

Happy shopping!

Review: Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment & Osmo Berber Oil

Last month, All the Pretty Jars (great blog, check it out!) had a giveaway as a way to say “Thank You” to her readers.  I was super excited to find that I had been chosen as one of the winners!!

And what did I win?

Two mini bottles (10ml) of hair oil products:

Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment

Osmo Berber Oil with Argan Oil

I was pretty excited, as I have never tried either of these products!

So first lets start with Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment:

Pros:

  • smells good – this has a rich, earthy scent that I really enjoy
  • smooths hair, tames frizz
  • makes hair shiny
  • leaves hair feeling silky and soft

Cons:

  • contains silicone – this is not a huge con, but because of how my skin reacts to silicone, I MUST wash my hair before bed any day that I use this or I will have cystic-type acne on my face from where my hair & pillow touch my face during the night.

And onto the Osmo Berber Oil with Argan Oil:

Pros:

  • smells good – this has a light, fruity scent that is very different from the Macadamia oil, but still very pleasant
  • smooths hair, tames frizz
  • makes hair shiny
  • leaves hair feeling silky and soft

Cons:

  • contains silicone – same issues (for me) as above

Conclusions:  I really like both of these oils.  The Macadamia has a thicker consistency than the Osmo, but they work very similarly.  Osmo claims on the bottle that their product will reduce drying time, but I do not blow dry my hair so I cannot comment on that.    Both of these leave hair looking shiny and healthy while keeping frizz away.  While I like the fragrance of both products, I personally prefer the scent of the Macadamia Healing Oil Treatment.  As mentioned above, they both contain silicone, so for someone like me whose skin is very sensitive to that ingredient, it’s a bit like playing with fire.  But I like to live on the edge a little and will continue to use these! haha!  I just have to make sure I wash my hair before bed to prevent the product from building up on my pillow and causing problems for my skin.

I am really glad to have had the opportunity to try these out!  A big THANK YOU to Mamifi at All the Pretty Jars!  🙂

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Review: Hard Candy 1,000 Lashes – Fiberized Lash Weave Mascara

Hard Candy Lash Weave MascaraThis is the first Hard Candy product that I have tried.  Hard Candy is a brand that is only available at Wal-Mart and is known for fun products with unique packaging.

My hubby was on the hunt for yard equipment and decided he wanted to check Wal-Mart.  As we made our way through the mega store in search of said yard equipment, we somehow passed the cosmetics section.  And “someone” may have gotten sidetracked.   And by “someone”, I mean me.  Who would’ve guessed, right??  I’m like a kid in a candy store every time I go through the cosmetics section of any store!

EVERY.  TIME.

My sweet husband is very patient with me and has learned to just keep going and leave me to my “candy” and keep going with his shopping.  He knows I’ll come back when I’m done.  And if I don’t it usually means I’m still there.  haha!

So once in the cosmetics section, I bee-lined for Hard Candy and happily started to examine the products.  I finally settled on trying this mascara.  I love trying new mascaras!!  I was immediately drawn to the color Mermaid Teal and was also intrigued by the term “Lash Weave”.  What was that going to mean??

Pros:

  • fabulous color
  • fun packaging
  • affordable

Cons:

  • no volume
  • no length
  • does not stick to lashes

Conclusion:Hard Candy Lash Weave Mascara

This mascara comes in what looks like a squeeze tube, but once you take it out of the box, the tube is actually hard, just like your standard mascara tube, just crimped at the end.  I wish I could show you the picture of it that I took, but my computer is being finicky and won’t load it.  :-/

So how does the mysterious “Lash Weave” perform?  Well, I can’t really say. This mascara literally just slipped off my lashes.  I could see the beautiful teal fibers on the brush, but they wouldn’t stay on my lashes.  No matter how many times I swiped, they just slid right off.  I tried waiting a few minutes and re-applying to see if it would build up layers.  No.  I even tried layering this on top of other mascaras, to see if that would help it stick.  But no.  No matter what I tried, It would not stay on my lashes at all.  I have never had a mascara do something like that before.

This product was a total regret purchase for me.  😦

Have you tried anything from Hard Candy?  What was your experience?  Do you have any recommendations?

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Review: c.Booth Derma Glycolic Acid Skin Resurfacing Solution

Today I’m going to let you in on a little secret.  This is one of my favorite skin care products of all time.  Seriously.  I have been using this for the past two years, and I wouldn’t want to ever be without it.  I’ve shared it with several friends and family members who have also fallen in love with it.

Pros:

  • fragrance free
  • 10% glycolic acid
  • contains an impressive list of mostly natural ingredients
  • affordable
  • helps fade acne scars
  • helps diminish fine lines

Cons:

  • not widely available in stores
  • can make skin more sensitive to sun exposure, so using a good sunscreen is essential

Conclusion:  If you are looking for something to take your skin care to the next level, this may be just the product for you.  I use this only at night, pouring a nickel sized amount into the palm of my hand and applying it all over my face and neck (avoiding the eye area).   This absorbs quickly without feeling sticky.  I’m on my 3rd bottle in 2 years, so that gives you an idea of how long this lasts.

I wish I had before and after photos to show you, but I’ve been using this for the past 2 years and didn’t have the foresight to take photos back then.  However, I can tell you that I once had breakouts like crazy on my chin, cheeks and forehead.  Not that my skin is perfect now, because it’s not – but you would never know how bad it once was.

Smoulder Face

My son wanted me to make a “smolder” face like Flynn Rider in the Tangled movie. haha!

Glycolic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid that helps to exfoliate the top layer of skin.  This keeps dead skin cells from building up and causing your pores and fine lines to appear bigger and your skin to look dull.

The directions on the bottle say to start by applying this just once a day and if no irritation occurs, to move up to twice a day.  I will be 33 on Sunday (!!) and I only use this once a day at night and I am very happy with the results.  For those who are more mature, twice a day may be right for you.  See what your skin tells you works best for you. 🙂

At one time this was available at Ulta, but it seems they no longer carry it.  However, if you have a Rite Aid in your area, you should be able to find it there.  It is also available online from drugstore.com and soap.com.

What is your favorite skin care product?

Thanks for stopping by!  Have a great day!

Beauty Bargain Alert! Cos Bar Tweezers at Target!

A good set of tweezers are always good to have around.

I wanted to let everyone know about the great deal I found at Target yesterday!  I found these Green Leopard Cos Bar Tweezers on clearance yesterday at Target!

These tweezers are a good size, not at all flimsy.   They have a very nice slant edge tip that does a great job of grabbing stray hairs.

The green leopard print is fun and will make them easy to find in my drawer!

The retail price of these is only $4.00 – a great price for a great set of tweezers.  But the clearance price was only $2.80!

I found these on an end cap in the Baby Department of Target that had a lot of various clearance items on it, including other items from the Cos Bar Collection.

Clearance items and prices can vary a lot by region, so I’m not sure if these will be at your local Target, but if you’re in the market for a new set of tweezers it doesn’t hurt to check!

What is your most recent beauty bargain??
