The Beauty of Change: An Update

Hello everyone! I hope you are doing well.

It’s been a while since I have posted here. I realize I just sort of dropped off with no explanation and for that I apologize.

grumpycatThere are several reasons for my absence. The first is that I have been having some technical difficulties. My computer is old and started crashing every time I tried to run WordPress. And it can’t handle video editing anymore at all, hence no new YouTube videos.

At first I was pretty upset by this, but before long I didn’t have much time to think about it anymore because of another reason…..

My family has been very sick this winter. Seems like we are down with something new every other week. I don’t like being sick. And I especially don’t like seeing my children sick.

Which brings me to yet another reason for my absence……

It’s something that I’ve never talked about on this blog before.

My youngest child has a genetic syndrome called Prader-Willi Syndrome.

NewbornJo

2 days old

When she was born 2 years ago, our lives were turned upside down. Her first month of life was spent in the NICU, which was like being in an alternate universe. Everyday was centered around tests, procedures & the like. When we finally got to bring her home, her health was still very delicate and taking care of her consumed much of my time and energy. Having a special-needs child can be exhausting. I don’t think anyone ever plans to be a special-needs parent. I certainly hadn’t. And it was something I had a hard time accepting at first.

Then, over time, she began to improve. Things started to become easier. And I had the time to return to makeup & all things beauty related. And part of that was this blog. It gave me an outlet. Working with makeup was a part of my life that had begun before she was born, and I realize now that I was desperately trying to hang on to something that felt “normal,” a part of my life that didn’t have to be defined by being a “special-needs parent.”

But the health challenges we have faced this winter have opened my eyes to the realization that things in my life can change very quickly.

Change can be a scary thing. It takes us out of our comfort zone and makes us adapt. But change can also be a beautiful thing. It makes us grow and mature into better people.Change-Ahead-Sign

My sweet baby girl keeps me on my toes, that is for sure. But I wouldn’t have it any other way. Having her has made me have to change. And because of that, I am a better person.

So for now I am going to let go of trying to hold on to who I was before, which includes letting go of this blog. It’s time to embrace who I am now. “Special-needs” and all. Maybe I will return to the blogosphere one day. Maybe not. We’ll see what the future holds.

November 2012

Thankfully, my family is on the mend and all of our health is improving steadily.

I am so grateful for all of you who have come by to visit and hear what I have to say. Thank you for your love and support through this journey. You have helped me more than I can say.

So I leave you with this: Don’t resist change, embrace it. God has big plans for you!

Grey Smoke featuring NYC Individualeyes Palette Dark Shadows

Remember that NYC palette I showed you in the video for the Influenster Beauty Bloggers VoxBox?

Here is a look that I wore recently using that palette.

I really liked this look.  A bit of drama, a bit of glam, and alot of smoke!

I did not use the primer in the palette for this look.  I tried that primer a few days ago and it did not work for me at all.  Bummer.  But I have really oily eyelids, so it may work better for others.  The cream highlighter is nice, it blends well and lasts all day, especially with the white shadow layered on top.

For this look I used:

Lauren Brooke Cream Foundation in N3

Lauren Brooke Cream Concealer in Warm Light – under eyes

Lauren Brooke Loose Powder foundation in Natural – lightly applied to set creams

Everyday Minerals Blush in Salon Fun (Discontinued 😦 )

Real Purity Eyeshadow Duo in Vanilla/Mocha – Mocha color – to fill brows

NYC Individualeyes Palette in Dark Shadows for eyes

essence liquid liner in Black  from my swap with lifeofbun – LOVE!

NYC Big Bold Ultra Volume Mascara in Black

Catrice Ultimate Color Lipstick in Frozen Rose  another product I love from lifeofbun

I got about 6 hours of wear before I noticed that the shadows were creasing.  I did  a quick touch-up.  About 3 hours later, I noticed that there was quite a bit of creasing but I was washing my face by that point anyway.

This was a fun palette to try.  The shadows have decent pigmentation and blend nicely.  They are pretty shimmery, but alot of that blends away to leave a nice sheen.

Thanks for stopping by!

Have a great day!

The Beauty of Oranges

Oranges are one of my favorite fruits!  They are delicious, juicy and sweet!

They are a great source of Vitamin C which is a building block for collagen that helps keep skin firm and young-looking!  They are also high in Folic acid which is important for brain function and the production of healthy red blood cells.

Oranges are another great source of antioxidants as well!  Remember how important those are??  They also boost the immune system to help keep you healthy during these upcoming winter months!

Next time you’re craving something sweet, reach for an orange!  🙂

Nails: Sally Hansen Thinking of Blue

This was one of my first Sally Hansen Complete Manicure colors.  I picked it up a couple years ago and it’s still one of my favorites!

Navy blue makes a great nail color because it looks chic and professional but yet….it’s blue!  🙂

Complete Manicure

This polish goes on like a dream:  smooth and even, opaque in two coats and dries quickly without the need to use base coat or top coat.  After all, it’s a complete manicure in a bottle, right?  🙂

What is your favorite navy blue polish?

New Video! International Swap with Anouchka!

Today started out as a bummer kind of day.  Not for any specific reason, I was just in a bit of a funk.  Ever have one of those days?

But all of that quickly changed when I checked my mailbox and found a package that came all way from Belgium!!  My sweet friend Anouchka (from lifeofbun) and I have been in contact over the past couple months about doing a swap of products.  We were both excited to try affordable products from brands that are not easy to find in our native countries.  I had lots of fun shopping for her products!  You can see her swap post here.

I felt like a kid at Christmas!  My package contained a selection of Catrice eyeshadows, lipsticks and a nail polish.  She included a nail polish and eyeliner from essence as well!  Her selection of colors was perfect, exactly the kind of colors I would have chosen!

I was so excited that I made a video!  🙂  Click the pic to check it out to see all the wonderful goodies!

Nothing like a sweet friend to brighten up a gloomy day!!

Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you, Anouchka!!  I love everything you picked out!!  Mwah! 🙂

Time to Take a Break

Sometimes a girl just needs a break!

I’ve got a pretty busy couple of weeks ahead of me as we get back into school and help my mom move.  I just wanted to let you know that I won’t be able to post much.

I promise I’ll be back soon!  And I’ll still be on Twitter and Facebook, so make sure you connect with me there!  And if you haven’t yet, what are you waiting for??!!  It’s not hard, just go over to the side bar and click the little buttons.  🙂  I love sharing with you and hearing from everyone!!

I’ve got lots of ideas for upcoming posts so stay tuned!!  🙂

But for now I will leave you with one of my favorite songs of the moment:

Enjoy!  🙂

Beauty Bargain Alert: Glass Nail files at Big Lots

This week we made a stop at Big Lots.  I enjoy the adventure of shopping there because you just never know what you might find!

I have wanted to get my hands on a glass nail file after I heard that they are better for your nails.  How are they better?  They create a nice smooth edge to the nail without the pulling or snagging that weakens the nail.  My nails are pretty hard, but once they get a bit passed my finger, they tend to rip and snag very easily and it drives me nuts!

This package was labeled “Trendy Tools” and came with two glass nail files in different colors.  Both have a protective plastic cover.

I found these in the makeup/cosmetics section.  And the best part??

The price!

Only $2.80 for TWO!!  Cant’ beat that!!

I’ve already used these on my nails and I have to say that I can definitely tell a difference.  My nails feel much smoother along the edge.  I don’t think I will ever be a long nail kinda gal, but I’m really hoping that this will help keep my nails from ripping and snagging as they grow.

Each Big Lots location seems to have slightly different things in stock, so I’m not sure if you will find these in your area.  But if you’re like me and enjoy the thrill of the hunt, it’s worth a stop to look.  🙂

Happy shopping!
