CLOSED – Blissoma Refine Clay Treatment Mask Review and GIVEAWAY!!!

Blissoma Refine Clay Treatment Mask

I recently had the chance to try the Blissoma Refine Clay Treatment Mask from  I am so excited to share my thoughts with you and the best part is:  Natural Joy Beauty has graciously offered you a chance to win one of your very own!!!

But first, my review:

  • all natural ingredients, including Rhassoul Clay
  • fresh scent
  • leaves skin feeling silky soft, not tight or dry
  • helps clear up blemishes!!

  • nothing really comes to mind…….

Conclusion:  I really enjoyed using this mask!  This has a great ingredients list, including Rhassoul Clay which is known for its ability to draw out impurities from the skin.  It has a scent that I found to be herbal and pleasant.  This mask feels very luxurious and creamy.  It takes about 15 minutes to dry once applied, which is a good opportunity to spend a little time on other beauty rituals (like nail care) or just reading a good book.  I love that it doesn’t take a huge time commitment to do something good for your skin!  It washes off easily and leaves my skin feeling smooth and silky, no dryness or tightness afterwards.  I found this to be a great way to relax at the end of a stressful day!

But don’t just take my word for it!

Here’s your chance to win a Blissoma Refine Clay Treatment Mask!

This giveaway begins today and closes at midnight on Tuesday, June 5th, 2012.  The winner will be selected using on Wednesday, June 6th, 2012.

Happy Memorial Day!!

My husband and I both come from military families. We know military life can be a hard life. We have watched our family members serve and sacrifice for those they love most. Today we honor them and those they served alongside.

While I do not think that something as basic as nail polish could ever compare to our military, it is still a fun way to add creativity to the day.

This is Essie Really Red, topped with Sally Hansen Distressed Denim (05) Crackle, and a layer of Sally Hansen Glass Slipper (150). A little red and blue with white sparkle. Still needs a bit of cleanup…..and the picture doesn’t really do it justice. But I like it.

Product Review: Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Purifying Gel Cleanser

I bought this cleansing gel a while ago from my local Rite Aid.  I have tried other things from Burt’s Bees in the past that I have liked so I had high hopes for this product as well.

  • Sulfate Free
  • Natural
  • Contains salicylic acid
  • removes makeup well

  • Drying-skin feels tight afterward
  • Caused breakouts 😦

Conclusion:  EPIC FAIL!!  I wanted to like this product, I really did.  The day after the first use I had a new spot show up.  I thought it was just coincidence and kept using this cleanser.  Each use lead to more spots!!  I stopped using it for a while and everything cleared up.  I tried using it again and had the exact same results!  😦 Me no likey!  I will happily stick to my African Black Soap!

Have you tried this cleanser?  What were your results?

DIY Toner Recipe

I love to make things, including some of my own skin care products!
Toner is used after cleansing as an extra step to bring added nutrients and antioxidants to the skin. Toner is easy and inexpensive to make with ingredients you may already have in your kitchen! I have been making this toner for years, my skin just loves it! I have shared this recipe with a few friends who have fallen in love with it as well. I hope you like it too!

1. Brew Green Tea at double strength. I use 2 tea bags for 8 oz (1 cup) of hot water. Let it steep until almost cool. (This would make green tea way too bitter for drinking, but we want to get as many antioxidants out of it as possible.)

2. Using funnel, pour 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) of Green Tea into empty bottle.

3. Add 1/4 teaspoon of honey to bottle. Replace cap on bottle and shake well until honey is completely dissolved.

4. Remove cap from bottle and add 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) Aloe Vera juice to bottle.

5. Add 1 ounce (2 Tablespoons) Apple Cider Vinegar to bottle.

6. Add 15-20 drops of Tea Tree Oil to bottle.

7. Replace cap on bottle and shake well.

That’s it! This is simple and quick to make. It leaves my skin feeling fresh and the honey does not leave my face feeling sticky at all. If you have open skin anywhere on your face (scratch, spot, etc) the vinegar will cause a slight sting. It does have a distinctive vinegar and Tea Tree Oil smell when first applied, but the scent quickly fades as it dries. I use this twice a day after cleansing my face (with my favorite cleanser from this post), in the morning and evening. I also use it to mix up face masks. Stay tuned for posts on that!

I hope you enjoyed this DIY skin care tip! Have a great day!

Getting Ready!

I had the opportunity to do makeup for a sweet young lady for her Prom this year.  She had chosen a beautiful hot pink dress to wear, so we decided to go with a silver and grey smokey eye to compliment it.

Product Review: Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara

Rimmel Grow Lash MascaraI like to try new mascaras, especially when I find them on sale.  Even better if I have a coupon too!  So that’s how I came to own Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara.  This is not a natural product, but a friend had told me that she had tried this and liked it, so I thought I would give it a try.

  • Dark black color, darkens lashes nicely
  • Nice size wand – not too big, not too small
  • No clumps

Rimmel Grow Lash Mascara

  • No volume
  • Not much length
  • Smudges easily
  • Leaves lashes sticky feeling, and sticking together

To say this is not my favorite mascara is a bit of an understatement.  Rimmel’s promotional photos with the lovely Zooey Deschanel are fabulous and gave me high hopes, but this just did not work well for me at all.  I did not like how it left my lashes feeling sticky.  I found mascara smudges under my eyes throughout the day.  Yuck!  The package claims that your lashes will be 117% longer if you use this for 30 days.  I couldn’t get past 4 days with this, so I didn’t see any difference.  Different mascaras work better for some people, so if you decide to try this one, maybe you will have better results like Zooey and my friend did.  I have tried other mascaras from Rimmel that I liked, like the Rimmel Sexy Curves, but this is not the one for me.  If you are interested in trying the Rimmel Lash Accelerator Mascara, you can find it at your local drugstore or at
