TBU All-Stars – Makeup Edition

There are always so many new and exciting products coming out and sometimes its fun to try something new. But there are also products that are tried and true and these are the things I reach for time and time again. These are my favorites, my “All Stars”.

Lauren Brooke Creme Foundation

Lauren Brooke Creme Foundation & Concealer: This stuff is the best. No really. THE BEST! I use it on myself & my clients. It looks like skin, feels like skin – no heavy, cakey look or feeling on your face. Once set with powder, it lasts all day!

Lauren Brooke Creme Concealer

The coverage can meet all needs: light, medium, or full depending on how its applied. The concealer has more coverage than the foundation. It covers circles and blemishes well. They are organic, all-natural, and have great ingredients that are actually beneficial to the skin. It doesn’t aggravate my sensitive skin. I wear makeup about 5 days a week and my personal jar of foundation will last me about 6 months or so. Hands down, my favorite foundation & concealer ever. I’ve tried others in the past and I like this so much I have no need to try anything else.

TKB Silk Powder

TKB Trading Silk Powder: I use this as a setting powder: the final step to set all the makeup and help it last all day. This stuff works great and is affordable. It’s great for toning down shine without looking heavy or cakey. Love it!

Sula Blush in Forget Me Not:

Sula Powder Blush in Forget Me Not

This is the perfect peach-toned blush that works for any skin tone. It brightens the face and looks beautiful all year round. It’s got great pigmentation and lasts all day. It’s not totally natural, but it is silicone free! (Silicone is another ingredient that I am highly sensitive to.)

Physician’s Formula Shimmer Strips Eyeliner Trios:

These eyeliners aren’t natural, but they work great – the pigmentation is rich, they last all day, glide on easily, and stay well on the

PF Shimmer Strips Trio for Green Eyes

waterline. They come in 3 packs with colors geared toward specific eye colors, but don’t let that limit your selection. I use several sets and love them all.

Eyeshadows:

Mineral Shadows

The world of eyeshadow is so vast! Whether you like to keep things neutral or experiment with new colors, there are so many options out there.

My personal favorites are mineral shadows. They are natural, the colors are great, and they blend beautifully. I’ve tried colors Lauren Brooke (favs: Toffee, Mystic Ice, and Cappuccino), Bare Escentuals, Everyday Minerals (fav: In the Garden), and All Natural Face (samples are super cheap! favs: Honey Peach, Deep Mauve). I like them all!

Wet N Wild Color Icon Shadows

For those on a budget, I also really like the Wet N Wild Color Icon Eyeshadows. They aren’t natural, but they are highly pigmented, blend well and have a great selection of colors. My favs are the Silent Treatment palette and the single shadows in Nutty and Brule. They can be found at your local drugstore and they are cheap!!

Cover Girl Professional All-In-One Mascara:

Cover Girl Professional All In One Mascara

I know, this isn’t natural either, but a girls gotta save money somewhere! I like to try different mascaras, but this is one that I keep coming back to because it delivers results – length, volume, no smudges, no clumps. And its cheap!

That was a long post! Thanks for making it this far!

Let me know what your favorite makeup products are!

Stay tuned for more “All Stars” in other categories!

The Beauty of Cucumbers

Cucumbers are a great addition to your beauty diet – they are high in vitamin C, vitamin A, and a good source of silica.  Silica is one of the building blocks of collagen.  Collagen keeps skin looking young and fresh.  Cucumbers are also high in water, so eat up to stay beautiful and hydrated!

Cucumbers are also a well-known treatment for puffy eyes!  Place a slice of cucumber over each eye for 5-10 minutes to help de-puff!  The high water content makes them feel very cool and soothing to the sensitive under-eye area!

Smooth Sailing Away…..

This is two coats of Essie’s Smooth Sailing polish topped with one coat of Poshe Top Coat.  I purchased this polish last spring and I still LOVE it!  It’s so spring-y and fresh!  One of my favorites!

What is your favorite (old or new) spring time polish?

Product Review: Nubian Heritage African Black Soap Body Wash

African Black Soap Body Wash

I recently purchased this thinking I was buying a facial cleanser….. I’m not really sure how I thought that, since it clearly says BODY WASH right on the bottle…….Must have gotten distracted, I guess, I don’t know. But after I bought it I re-read the label to make sure that it did not contain sulfates – one of the ingredients I am allergic to. It doesn’t! At least I didn’t get too distracted…..

I have heard good things about using African Black Soap for facial cleansing from different sources for a while but just hadn’t gotten around to trying it out myself. I recently had some breakouts pop up (thank you, Easter candy stash!) And as we all know, breakouts make us look for the “magic” product to fix it, right?? Well, my friends, this may be it!

Some of the key ingredients that caught my attention in this are African black soap (obviously), dead sea salt, and salicylic acid. It looks black in the bottle, but comes out as brown with black bits in it. It’s not rough like a scrub, though.

So let’s break it down, shall we?

Pros:

  • cleanses well-removes makeup completely
  • leaves skin very soft and smooth, not tight or dry feeling
  • natural
  • doesn’t contain sulfates

Cons:

  • fragrance – this contains sandalwood essential oil and the scent is very strong

Conclusion: This stuff is amazing!!!!! My skin looks so glow-y and feels so soft after using this product! It did help clear up the breakouts that I was dealing with and my skin is staying clear!! I wish the scent were more subtle, but for these results, I can deal with it. The Nubian Heritage African Black Soap can be purchased at Amazon.com, but I have also seen other brands of African black soap products at my local Target store.  Overall, I think I will look for other African Black Soap cleansers to try once I run out of this one, just to see how they compare.

The Beauty of Lemons

What do you do when life hands you lemons?

Make lemon-water!

Lemons are a great source of vitamin C that helps to keep skin looking smooth and young.

I start every morning with a glass of lemon water.  No sugar, just the juice of one lemon and enough water to fill the cup.  Lemon water has some amazing health benefits that you can read more about here.  It’s one of my secrets for healthy, glowing skin!

Want to double your benefits??

Dip a lemon that has already been squeezed into a small bowl of sugar, then apply this in circular motions onto clean skin.  Let it sit for 10-15 minutes and rinse.  Your skin will feel soft and fresh!

Product Review: EcoTools Limited Edition Beautiful Expressions Kabuki Set

When I first heard about these back in October on Nouveau Cheap (LOVE that blog!! Check it out!), I was determined to find them for myself. I am a big fan of Eco Tools brushes! They are affordable, good quality, easy to find, super soft and eco-friendly! What more can you ask for?

What was that?

You want them to be pretty too?

Oh, look!

THEY ARE!!

I loooove the little designs on the handles! These brushes are incredibly soft and easy to work with. Each of these pint-size peanuts are shaped differently for a specific purpose:

Conceal

Conceal – this brush is pointed and very dense. It is great for blending concealer under the eyes, around the nose and other areas that need heavier coverage.

Contour

Contour – this brush has a soft dome shape that is great for applying and blending blush to the cheeks as well as contouring the cheeks, temples and jaw line.

Bronze

Bronze – this angled brush is not as dense as the others, which is exactly what I look for in a bronzing brush! It achieves the sun-kissed-glow look, not the sun-smacked-you-in-the-face look.

Buff

Buff– this little flat top brush is great for applying powder foundation and to set makeup with finishing powder. It gives a fabulously even finish.

All of these brushes are quite small which can be a little awkward at first, but also makes them great for travel. I keep them in my kit in a separate travel soap container.

Ready for travel!

I have washed these babies multiple times and they have not shed one hair!

From the top – Conceal, Contour, Bronze, Buff

These are limited edition so I’m not sure how long they will be available, but I have seen them in my local Walgreens and Kroger affiliate stores just this week, so they’re still out there. They can also be purchased online from Amazon.com.

Conclusion: I love these little bundles of soft, makeup blending, eco-friendly goodness! They retail for $14.99, but I bought these at Target in January when I found them half off! Sweet!! I love a good deal! But even at full price, I think they are a good bargain for great brushes.

What are your favorite brushes??
